Scanning tunneling microscopy is used to image the additional quasi-particle states generated by quantized vortices in the high-Tc superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8þd. They exhibit a Cu–O bond oriented checkerboard pattern, with ð4:2 0:4Þa0 periodicity and 30 A decay length. 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
